That's fine if you actually want that kind of detail for every selected file, but can fill up your screen pretty fast. files on the desktop, in a folder, on a volume, etc. Yes, if you select a bunch of files and select Command-I, then you'll get a Get Info window for each.

So far, I haven't run into any situations that they won't cover. If you've already got duplicates in your destination folder, then "Keep Both" will be replaced by "Skip".Īnyway, it's odd that you're not seeing all of these options consistently. "Apply All" (a radio button to have the chosen option apply to all items if you've selected multiple files) "Replace" (which replaces the existing item with the one that you're moving) and "Stop" (which completely halts the operation) "Keep Both" (which adds the new file to the existing folder with ' copy' appended to the file name) Do you you want to replace it with the one you're moving?" with the following options: In that situation, I get a dialogue that says "An item named " already exists in this location.

(I found out the hard way, that if you add to a QT file but fail to "Save As" it out to a separate new file, you will be rudely surprised that the original file you "Save" with the new addition can no longer be opened, once you delete the source movie of the newly added part.)

In rarer circumstances, I do wish Finder would show individual Get Info for each selected file, often after I've edited a bunch of QuickTime Pro (classic) movies. In this situation, I want a single Get Info on all the files selected, just to see the number of files being selected.

Would it fire up a gazillion individual Get Info widnows for each and every one of the files I highlighted? Or, would it present a single Get Info windows giving me the aggregate on all the files selected? See, because Finder's file copy operation is so untrustworthy, that I often want to Get Info on all the files in a destination folder to get an idea of the actual number of files copied, which might be less than the number I have tried to make Finder copy from the source.

In a similar vein to #3 above, I have no idea how Finder is going to behave, when I do a Get Info on a bunch of files. As far as I could tell, there's no rhyme or rhythm to which options Finder decides to throw up, because I'm pretty much always copying the same file type (.MP4) in those scenarios. In the latter case, I'm forced to abort the entire copy operation by choosing "stop". On other occasions, you only get the option to "stop" or "overwrite/replace" (don't recall the exact word used). Sometimes Finder offers a button option to "skip" those identically-named files, same as it normally does during intra-volume copying. When trying to copy a bunch of files from the internal statrt-up volume to an external drive, the 10.11 Finder behaves inconsistently when it encounters files in the destination folder with the same names. And a far from certain 3) possible interference from Time Machine / backupd actively backing up in the background, causing the sucky IOKit and HFS+ to choke, which in turn makes Finder's polling to not catch up with my user input. 2) I'm almost always in List view, sorting by Date Modified. So maybe a couple more qualifying conditions are needed in order to trigger that symptom: 1) Yes, it's 10.11.x El Capitan. Ok, so when I deliberately try to replicate Scenario 1 in my original post, it NEVER happens.
